Karen Wenzel holds a B.S. in Recreation (Concentration in Therapeutic Recreation) and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Colorado, and a M.A. Recreation (Concentration in Therapeutic Recreation) from the University of Northern Colorado. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Clemson University, studying Recreational Therapy. She has worked in community recreation at North Jeffco Parks and Recreation (now APEX) and the Genesee Foundation. Her therapeutic recreation experience includes inpatient behavioral health and adult day services for individuals with neurological disabilities. She worked for the Rocky Mountain MS Center for 22 years, where she directed the King Adult Day Enrichment Program and then served as Executive Director. She has been teaching recreation and therapeutic recreation for over 30 years, at the University of Northern Colorado and Metro State University of Denver. Karen is also a classically trained pianist and accompanies a choral group. In her free time, she enjoys reading good books, gardening, swimming, skiing, anything in the Rocky Mountains, and hanging out with her husband and her cats. Some of her proudest accomplishments are raising two amazing daughters, climbing the Grand Teton, running the New York Marathon, and skiing with some of the women’s world cup skiers.
